How do I know when our boar is too old or large to do his job? I know the obvious answer, when our sows don’t get bred. I have observed him trying, but “missing the target” so to speak. I am wondering if he is too large for my gilts, it all seems so awkward. We missed out on our spring pigs this year, with only fall litters. What is the normal successful breeding span of a boar? Also. When can you expect a fresh young boar to be able to start breeding? 1 year?
Thanks for any help with this!

I read that 3 or 4 years was about how old they are when they are done. Is he really fat?

Just noticed this was posted in December 🙂 Did he get the job done?
